Subliminal Girls....the return, gently.....

Things happen in funny ways, and when, last week we received an email from Keir Mills to say that Sky One wanted to speak to us about a new music program I expected a mixed reaction from the girls.
I received a unanimous, "Let's go for it". Now as with most of these things, probably nothing will ever come of it, but what it did prove, was that there is a certain chemistry between one of the most obnoxious, most difficult but also most fun bands I have ever been in. The missed chances, the great songs and the volatile, difficulties that go with having a five piece band containing 5 front men.

After arriving on the scene to find that there was a lot more people than we expected at said audition, to feel sceptical, but to go on and play electronic hearts again, for the first time, for 8 months with no rehearsal and for it to feel damn near perfect, except for the bass (Danny still out of action for now).

This was enough to make me feel that we never split up, we took a break, we took something, we needed SOMETHING, what I still don't know. Danny still isn't ready to play and without him we will never ever be subliminal girls proper.

I think the time has come to start putting stuff together again piece by piece, without having any pressure and without trying to be anything. The "last gig" was a last gig because this will be different.

I for one want to make an album.

A bit vague I know.....as we always stole....barbed wire kisses.

it's been a little while

Morning chaps, a little inactive on the blog front of late, not through lack of music, just through lack of writing about it.

Been a bit of a mixed month but all very good.

Firstly the death of a love affair, we hung up our 18 carrot boots for the last time. Loads of people came, it was great but I went home early with killer flu....Rebekah Delgado , now complete with band, came on before us and was absolutely amazing, word has it there will be news from her recording wise very soon.

The new band featuring Ciaran, Wayne Jimmy and I is sounding great, no idea what to compare it too but somewhere between the lost boys sound track and raw power. We are almost ready to go. Wayne is making me a very competent bass player, much to Jimmy's amusement.

Department, featuring Dan Lobster,Rob, Darren and myself are slightly further away from being ready lyric wise, which I must sort out, but also sounding great, somewhere between Stephen Malkmus, MBV and carter USM. We have about 3 songs finished and ready to go and another 6 or so close. Dans guitar playing is amazing and he is a great friend so this is a venture that I am really enjoying being part of, and do they drink....

I have just started playing bass for Black Daniel. I am really happy about this as they are probably my number 1 live band in the world at the moment. They don't really need a bass player as most of what they do they trigger so I am more of an "occasional live addition" but completely love it. Lots of great gigs coming up ,including secret garden party festival, guided missile, potty mouth disco and many many more. do not have to persuade anyone to like this band. Just google black daniel myspace and have a listen., live dates are up there. Come along , you will not ever be disappointed.

On Thursday some band or other played with llyod Grossman, that band were the angry bees, now with two new secret front people.
llyod Grossman is an even bigger guitar pervert than I am, sporting a mint condition 1969 gibson Les paul deluxe gold top and a 57 Les Paul Junior single cut in TV yellow, both original, his taste in guitars is even harder to fault than his chili tomato pasta sauce.
Thank you to everyone who came it was brilliant.

Also I really enjoyed an evening at Secret Danger Society, my friends Oli, Jon and Ben's monthly night at the Moustache Bar in Stoke Newington High Street, free entry for all and reasonably priced booze. I really enjoyed the music though I don't know the first thing about it so i am not even going to try to describe it.

The rest of the month is looking great, tonight Black Daniel at Fox Fest, Black Daniel at guided missile at the buffalo bar on the 8th, Black daniel on the 14th at the 12 bar with the legendaryly dangerous and sublime Milk Kan, featuring Hood and the Blade.

Apart from being potless due to an unpaid sick day I wasn't expecting all is good.

Love you but don't touch me cos your sick.....
