Right ok, so it is 2011, I remember 1991 like it was yesterday and that was 20 f*cking years ago now. I knew nothing at all then and very little more now but I am trying to learn as best I can. Anyway. Music.
Where do I start, today i will start with heart kill giant. My great friend Patrick McCourt of Black Daniel fame, asked me to join him on bass in Heart Kill Giant in October 2010, a time when I seemed to have ample free time, so I agreed. I love being in this band, it is totally different to anything I have ever done before but I get to play my beautiful 1978 ricky 4001 on stage. The songs are stunning and Pat has a voice that could melt gold. We have lots coming up but the one I want you all to come and check out the gig next Saturday at 93 feet east. That is Sat 22nd January. We have lots coming up.
Have a listen here http://heartkillgiant.bandcamp.com/track/a-hymn-for-her
It wouldn't be a new year without Subliminal Girls. We would like to welcome our newest addition guitarist and house mate, the amazing, entertaining and eccentric (in all the right ways) Ciaran NcNamee. No one can play like Ciaran, no one even tries. Ciaran plays drums in Mayumi Carrex and the Angry Bees. He can play the guitar to pardon the plageurism *sic "Like ringing a bell".
We have two gigs coming up and they are both early starters. Gig one is the Pop Art all dayer we are on at 7.45 at the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes, Bloomsbury on Sat 29th January.
The second gig is for my new friend and companion Zac Stephenson to support his band Special Needs on their come back gig. That is at the hideously expensive but still great Proud Galleries Camden Town. Tuesday 15th of February. Again we are on at 7.45. We are also on Spotify. Thanks for the ideas and inspirations.
Arran Lovechild and myself have another new project, we are called The Marksmen, we are writing songs with Sub Girls' Danny "The Frenchman" Le Pelley. " A dark void for the deeply destroyed the last safe haven for the paranoid and she said...this is all for you, we are the tourists we are the holiday romance , just for the evening, we are the one night stands, we'll get together again but only for the weekend" Um...you get the gist. Same ingredients as Self Obsession.
The Inevitable Pinhole Burns are working on our first single, Cassie. We are collaborating with Lamik 2000 of Black Daniel, Stuart Semple and Camilla Hedgeland on the video, release , media and art work. Rob, Lobster, Darren and myself cannot even begin to thank all of those involved enough. Thanks also to Bucks publishing. Thank you for believing enough guys (I want to be Bruce Springsteen). We are not even a year into this. La la love you. Thanks to all of you who inspired lyrics and feedback for better or for worse. Come see us at the Camden Undersolo on Thursday (20th jan, This Thursday).
Mayumi Carrex continues to grow we lost a singer
, we might need another one we are not sure yet.
The Angry Bees.....we can't talk about the Angry Bees.
And finally, There was Steve Horry, "keyboard "Kate Dornan, Andrew Bowker, Patrick Barrett and me, we had a little band in the middle of a period of bad craziness for all of us, that band died too soon, but, as with many things that died to soon, it never got shit, stale or boring. That band was The 18 Carat Love Affair, (The 18 Carat Wreck Affair to its friends). Anyway, we thought fuck it and we are coming back for ONE NIGHT ONLY. 12th February at Guided Missile Club at The Buffalo Bar, Highbury and Islington. http://www.myspace.com/the18caratloveaffair.
And me, I am alright, I am happier than I have ever been, it is Saturday morning, I am in Dalston, at some point I might make some tea. I will never ever learn......
Sincerely J. Rhesus
